Zarubezhneft tops the environmental transparency rating of oil and gas companies in Russia
Zarubezhneft again topped the rating of Russian oil and gas companies environmental responsibility transparency rating at the end of 2021, but this time it shared the first and second places with Tatneft, gaining the same number of points.
The rating was initiated by the fuel and energy complex consulting and analytical group "CREON" and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in partnership with the "National Rating Agency" and the UN Environment Program, as well as with the support of the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Ministry of Energy of Russia. Zarubezhneft has been participating in the rating since its foundation in 2014. In total, the study presents 22 Russian oil and gas companies, as well as 14 enterprises from Kazakhstan and two from Azerbaijan.
The high result was achieved owing to the systematic work in the direction of the Zarubezhneft’s environmental responsibility at all sites, as well as owing to the Company's partners involved in the main projects: Petrovietnam OGC, Total, Equinor and others. Zarubezhneft is the first Russian company to introduce a methodology for rating the availability and transparency of environmental information for foreign assets. The first among them will be Andijanpetro, a joint venture with Uzbekneftegaz, the state-owned company of Uzbekistan.
Within the framework of the “Ecology” national project, Zarubezhneft continues to successfully implement the “Conservation of biodiversity and development of ecological tourism” federal project, actively participating in the support and development of the Siberian crane (white crane) and reindeer populations in close cooperation with the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation and the local administration.
“An open and professional dialogue of the oil and gas industry with the state and society on environmental issues is one of the most efficient tools in achieving sustainable development goals. We hope that this way the practices of the companies leading the rating will attract the attention of other industries, because objectively we have something to work on and reasons to unite.
Having made sustainable development one of the priority areas of the company's strategy, we share our knowledge in this area, unite with partners, both externally and within the company, developing the “green thinking” of our employees", - the General Director of Zarubezhneft Sergey Kudryashov commented on the rating results.
